Pension Accountant

Are you a highly organized self-starter looking for the next opportunity in your career? The Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund (ATRF) has the opportunity for an ambitious, results oriented individual to join our Finance team as Pension Accountant located in Edmonton, Alberta.

Established in 1939, the Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund Board (ATRF) has provided exceptional administration for the teachers’ pension plans for Alberta for over 80 years. ATRF takes pride in delivering the highest quality service to more than 80,000 plan members.

Reporting to the Manager, Pension Financial Services, the Pension Accountant plays a key role in supporting the achievement of ATRF’s financial objectives towards the accurate representation of pension plan assets and liabilities in the financial statements. The position is primarily responsible for the collection and maintenance of pension benefits administration related to financial data, pension payments and refunds, tax administration pension accounting functions. The Pension Accountant identifies and effectively communicates recommendation on process improvements, participates in finance initiatives and provides support to both internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications, Experience and Capabilities

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in accounting or finance related field
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements
  • Excellent technical skills in excel, accounting systems and applications as well as experience testing system changes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer services skills

Assets considered:

  • Experience working in a pension or benefit environment
  • Completion of or working toward Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
