The Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund (ATRF) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our Information and Technology Services (ITS) team as a Senior Application Developer in Edmonton, AB.
For over 80 years, ATRF has provided exceptional administration of the Teachers’ Pension Plans for Alberta. We take pride in delivering the highest quality service to more than 80,000 plan members, ensuring they receive a secure pension into retirement.
Reporting to the Director, Application Development, the Senior Application Developer provides business value in the application development, quality assurance, implementation, and maintenance of web and application solutions that support business needs, objectives, and strategy. This position proactively partners with the business, ITS, and external contacts and plays a key role in building and developing innovative and comprehensive web and application solutions.
The Senior Application Developer is consulted as a resource in the technical and professional function of application development, applies expert knowledge to both project-based and day-to-day support to the enhancement of applications and trains and mentors team members.

Qualifications, Experience, and Capabilities
- Completion of a 4-year university degree in computing science, information systems, engineering, or related field. Other combinations of education and extensive application development experience may be considered.
- Minimum five years of experience in full-stack application development using C#, .NET Core, HTML, CSS, modern JavaScript Frameworks (React, Vue, Angular), TypeScript, and Visual Studio Development Tools
- Certifications/Training in the following areas is preferred:
- Microsoft Certifications
- Professional Software Developer – IEEE
- Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
- Agile/Scrum
- Demonstrated experience in the development and interaction with REST API’s and web services across multiple systems
- Experience in the development of Microsoft SharePoint Framework solutions and extensibility options in Microsoft 365 is desirable
- Experience developing features, experiences, and performance optimizations for external facing applications across both mobile and desktop
- Demonstrated ability to test, debug, and troubleshoot applications from end to end
- Expertise in designing and interfacing with relational and non-relational databases
- Extensive working experience in agile methodologies
- Experience with Azure DevOps and other cloud technologies
- Development for other web platforms such as WordPress is desirable
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work with all levels of the organization including formal presentation skills and the ability to translate communications from technical to non-technical based on audience understanding
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team, good problem-solving skills, task oriented, meticulous, positive attitude, able to multitask, and technically savvy
