Answers to Your Questions

1. Who is eligible for retroactive pay?
   The Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) has prepared a webpage with guidelines about the retroactive pay for teachers. Please visit the Alberta Teacher’s Association website for details.
2. How and when does ATRF update its records for retroactive salary adjustments?
   Once ATRF receives updated salary details and pension contributions from your current or former employer(s), we will:
   • validate and reconcile the reported information
   • update your pension record to reflect the new salary
   • assess any impact on your pension benefits, including recalculations where necessary.
   • Due to the complexity and volume of these updates, it will take time to process. Please monitor the table at the bottom of this page to find out when your pension record in MyPension has been updated.
3. Does ATRF need me to take any action?
   No, you do not need to contact ATRF unless you have specific concerns about your updated pension record or pension benefit payment. Please monitor the table at the bottom of this page to see when your pension record has been updated in MyPension.
4. When will updated salary information appear on MyPension and in benefit estimates?
   Updated salary details will be available once ATRF validates and reconciles the reported information from your current or former employer(s). This will include adjusted salary details for the current and previous school years. Your record will reflect these changes as soon as processing is complete.
5. Will my 2024–2025 Annual Plan Member Statement include updated earnings and contributions?
   The inclusion of retroactive salary details on your 2024-2025 Annual Plan Member Statement is dependent on the reporting by your employer and the validation and reconciliation by ATRF. Please monitor the table at the bottom of this page to see whether your retroactive salary will appear on your 2024-2025 or your 2025-2026 statement.
6. Will my January 2026 retired member Pension Information Statement include updated pension information related to the retroactive pay?
   No. If you have accrued pensionable service since September 1, 2024, and are eligible to receive retroactive pay, your pension will be reviewed once we receive the adjusted earnings from your former employer. If your pension is adjusted, you will receive a personalized letter sometime after January 2026 providing the adjusted amounts and these will also be reflected in your MyPension account and future statements.
7. How will adjustments be handled if I am in the process of applying for a pension benefit payment or if I have already received a pension benefit payment from ATRF?
   If you have not already received your payment from ATRF, and the updated salary details and pension contributions from your former employer(s) are validated and reconciled before your benefit has been paid, the adjustment will be included in your payment and will be confirmed in your documentation. If you have already received your pension benefit payment, ATRF will assess any impact and complete any recalculations where necessary. You will receive a personalized letter if your payment is adjusted.
