Pension Awareness Day 2026

February 19, 2026

February 19, 2026, is Pension Awareness Day, a national initiative dedicated to helping Canadians better understand their workplace pensions and the importance of planning early for retirement.

Why Focusing on Your Pension Matters
Workplace pensions are one of the most effective tools for building long-term financial security. This year’s theme — “Discover the value of a workplace pension” — highlights the importance of knowing how your plan works, what benefits it provides, and how it contributes to your future financial wellbeing.

Taking a few moments to learn more about your pension today can help ensure you’re prepared for life in retirement.

Explore Your Pension
We encourage all members to review their pension information and take advantage of the resources available to better understand your pension plan. ATRF’s secure member portal, MyPension has a number of tools that can support you, including the ability to generate pension estimates to help with retirement planning.

Planning for Tomorrow
Even if retirement feels far away, the choices you make today can shape your future. Pension Awareness Day is the perfect opportunity to become informed, ask questions, and feel confident in your long-term financial plans.

Are you aware of the different pension options at retirement?  Understanding these choices early—such as how your health, relationship status, or long‑term financial goals might influence the type of pension option that’s right for you—can help you make confident, informed decisions when the time comes. For example, some members may want to plan ahead for a survivor benefit if they’re married or have a partner, while others may choose options that offer more flexibility if they’re single or managing health considerations.

Learn more about your pension by reading information on our website, using our Pension Option Selection Tool, watching videos on our Vimeo channel, booking an appointment with a pension counsellor, or joining us for a webinar
